Nintendo and Monolith Soft announced Xenoblade Genesis during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct.
We’re getting updated versions of all three previous mainline titles for the Switch 2, and along with them, a completely new Xenoblade adventure.
Xenoblade Genesis is not a numbered sequel, and Nintendo has not explained how it connects to the previous games, but we know that it’s supposed to serve as the new beginning for the series. The company says more details will be shared later, so its exact connection to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and the series timeline remains unclear.
The reveal trailer introduces Anima as the force behind the world’s elements, including water, fire, and wind. Battles in this world are shaped by Anima and by warriors known as Vesselai, who can wield that power.
The trailer also shows an unnamed character arriving at Leukos, an academy in a land warmed by six suns. She receives an Anima crystone, which amplifies a Vesselai’s powers and records the bearer’s thoughts and actions.
Nintendo has not confirmed the main cast, combat system, party structure, or world format yet. The trailer footage points to another large-scale Monolith Soft RPG, but the announcement stops short of explaining whether Genesis keeps the real-time combat just like the previous games, or whether it changes the formula for Switch 2.
The world looks every bit as grandiose as the previous entries, with the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware adding more visual fidelity to everything. It does look, however, that the upcoming game has a different head artist and main designer, as visually, it looks more like the recent Fire Emblem entries, rather than any Xenoblade.
Xenoblade Genesis is developed by Monolith Soft and will be released both physically and digitally through the Nintendo eShop in 2027, but a specific release date has not been announced yet.
