White House Picked Fight With the Weather Channel Over 'B.S. Clickbait' Ahead of UFC Freedom 250

The White House's official rapid-response account on X became embroiled in a public dispute with The Weather Channel after the network highlighted potential weather-related disruptions ahead of UFC Freedom 250, an event held on the White House South Lawn.

The exchange began when The Weather Channel shared a forecast graphic titled "UFC Freedom 250 Forecast: Rain, 30 MPH Winds and Mosquitos on the White House Lawn." In an accompanying post, the network said the event faced a "60% chance of thunderstorms," possible delays from lightning, wind gusts of up to 34 mph, high humidity and swarms of insects that fighters could encounter during the outdoor card.

The White House's Rapid Response 47 account responded by accusing the network of sensationalizing the forecast:

"This event is about celebrating America's unmatched greatness after 250 years — which apparently doesn't sit well with the friendless loser who wrote this b******t clickbait headline. Rain or shine, we're celebrating our great country no matter what. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

The dispute unfolded as organizers monitored weather conditions that had raised concerns throughout fight week. The Weather Channel noted that a lightning strike within eight miles of the venue would trigger an automatic 30-minute suspension of the event under safety protocols.

In the end, weather proved less disruptive than anticipated. UFC Freedom 250 was delayed by approximately 45 minutes because of rain concerns, but the event proceeded as planned.

Speaking afterward, UFC President Dana White said forecasts had been a major source of concern leading into the event, as Yahoo! Sports reported. "We were sweating the storm all day," White told reporters. "The storm literally split and went around the White House."

White described conditions during the fights as favorable, saying there was enough breeze to keep insects away and that "everything ... played out perfectly."

The event, staged on the South Lawn as part of celebrations tied to the United States' 250th anniversary, drew thousands of attendees and featured President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, administration officials and business leaders among those seated cageside.

White later said nearly 200,000 people passed through the surrounding event area over two days and characterized the broadcast audience as exceeding expectations. While he praised the outcome, he suggested the experience had not changed his feelings about outdoor events.

"I don't ever want to be outside ever again," White said.
