Thomas Tuchel gives Premier League winner new role in England team

  • England manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice as the team's vice-captain for the upcoming World Cup campaign.
  • Rice, alongside Arsenal teammates Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze, joined the England squad at their West Palm Beach base in Florida on Saturday evening.
  • Tuchel stated that Rice's vice-captaincy was previously discussed when regular skipper Harry Kane was unavailable, acknowledging Rice's quality and leadership.
  • The Arsenal quartet commenced training with the squad on Sunday, as preparations intensify for England's final warm-up match against Costa Rica in Orlando.
  • England will also play a behind-closed-doors fixture against Miami FC after the Costa Rica friendly to manage player minutes before travelling to their Kansas City base for the World Cup, where they are set to face Croatia, Ghana, and Panama in Group L.
