Tech titan paid Ghislaine Maxwell millions to fund ‘extravagant life’

  • Ghislaine Maxwell received $7.2 million from former tech titan Ted Waitt in September 2010 following the conclusion of their six-year relationship.
  • Waitt, co-founder of Gateway personal computer company, testified to the House Oversight Committee that he provided the sum as a “palimony settlement-type thing” to help Maxwell maintain the “extravagant life” they had shared.
  • He stated that Maxwell was reportedly 'not happy with the amount, wanting more,' and expressed regret, indicating he would not have befriended her or allowed her near his children if he had known about her involvement with Jeffrey Epstein.
  • Waitt also informed the committee that Maxwell downplayed the severity of Epstein's sexual abuse of teen girls and potentially concealed her travels with Epstein from him.
  • The testimony forms part of a House Oversight Committee investigation into Epstein and Maxwell, with some members having discussed a potential pardon for Maxwell in exchange for cooperation, a suggestion opposed by Democrats on the panel.
