Boston Red Sox star Willson Contreras praised the Tartan Army for providing the best atmosphere at their iconic Fenway Park home for years.

An estimated 5,000 Scotland fans attended the baseball game as the hosts fell to a 6-4 defeat to Texas Rangers.

The Tartan Army helped provide an impressive atmosphere and they were still in celebratory mood following Scotland's 1-0 win against Haiti in their opening World Cup group game.

And Venezuelan ace Contreras was impressed at the Tartan takeover at the ball game.

He said: "That was the best environment that we’ve had this season and for a long time for sure.

"It was cool to see them all there supporting the team and having fun with the World Cup.”

And Red Sox boss Chad Tracy was stunned at the atmosphere created by the thousands of Scottish fans.

He said: "It was crazy.

"It felt like a soccer game with the chanting and all that. It was pretty loud.”

And Red Sox pitcher Connelly Early reckoned the Scotland fans helped them, despite their eventual defeat.

He said: "It was a really good atmosphere and a fun game in general.

"I think that helped the offence for sure. That’s a great game to pitch in, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to throw it as well as I wished, but a really good atmosphere."
