Former Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle has pulled out of her comeback concert in the US after her manager was “advised not to fly”.
The Scottish singer, 65, recently returned to the public eye after suffering a stroke in 2022 and was due to perform at a charity event in Boston, United States on Friday (12 June). The gig would have been one of her first live performances in years, with the star having last sung live at the BGT final in 2023.
However, Boyle took to Facebook on Tuesday (9 June) to drop out of the event – revealing that she could no longer perform as her manager required dental surgery.
“I’m so sorry to say that I will no longer be travelling to Boston for the David Yarrow Foundation event,” she wrote on the platform.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances following a dental procedure, my manager has been advised not to fly, which sadly means we’re unable to make the journey.
“I was really looking forward to being there and supporting such a wonderful cause, and I’m so sorry for any disappointment this may cause.”
She ended the post by sending her “love and best wishes” to those attending the “very special evening”.
Boyle rose to fame following her memorable audition on BGT in 2009, making it to the show’s final before losing out to dance troupe Diversity. Boyle was arguably the real winner however, with the singer selling over 10 million copies of her debut album – making it one of the best selling records of the 21st century.
In 2013, Boyle revealed that she had been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, a form of autism, saying that it had been a “relief” at the time.
“I have always known that I have had an unfair label put upon me,” she said, explaining that her condition made her different to her peers as a child. “That made me more determined to be where I want to be.”
The singer recently debuted a glamorous new look as part of a collaboration with ice cream brand Cornetto, returning to the public eye after years away following her stroke.
Boyle suffered a minor stroke in 2023, shortly before performing in the BGT final, which left her unable to properly speak or sing.
Earlier this month, she revealed that her singing voice is still recovering. “I have had a lot of speech therapy. It was difficult at first, but after the first few weeks, my voice slowly started to come back,” she told The Sun. “I have been having a lot of vocal lessons, too, for my singing.”
She added that her voice “still needs some work” but she’s sure it “will come back”. Boyle continued: “I am taking wee baby steps. If you go too fast, too soon, you go down a hole. It took a while for my confidence to come back with my music. But I am getting there. Slowly.”
