Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been found guilty of two counts of rape and jailed for four years.
The 29-year-old, who is the Crown Princess’s eldest child from a relationship before she met Crown Prince Haakon, had denied four counts of rape.
But judges convicted him of raping two women, including one at an after-party on the Crown Prince's estate at Skaugum in 2018 and another involving a woman in Oslo in 2024.
He was also convicted of abusing an ex-girlfriend, Norwegian influencer Nora Haukland.
He was found guilty on 34 out of 38 charges, including six of sexual molestation and six of “reckless behaviour”.
All four rape charges involved women who had been either asleep or incapacitated at the time.
The attack at Skaugum, Haakon and Mette-Marit’s royal residence, took place in 2018.
The victim was said to have been unconscious when Hoiby had sexual intercourse with her and filmed the act. It was said to have taken place after they had engaged in consensual sex.
Hoiby was also ruled to have raped a second woman without sexual intercourse at a late-night after-party in Oslo in March 2024.
The seven-week trial gripped Norway, detailing Hoiby’s drug addiction, self-made videos of sexual encounters and more than 800 electronic messages entered into evidence.
The prosecution described Hoiby as a man “who thinks he can do whatever he wants”.
The court in Oslo cleared him of two counts of rape and two out of five charges of violating restraining orders.
Prosecutors had called for Høiby to be given seven years and seven months in prison.
His defence lawyers had called for a lesser term of 18 months and can appeal against the verdict.
Høiby’s mother married into the royal family when he was four, and although he grew up within the family he is not himself a royal figure.
The trial comes at a difficult time for the Norwegian royal family, which has been grappling with the serious illness of the Crown Princess.
She has also faced scrutiny over her past association with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
