Scotland by numbers as excitement grows for World Cup opener vs Haiti

Scotland's World Cup history by numbers, ahead of their opening match against Haiti.

80,000: Attendance at Scotland v Brazil in the 1998 World Cup opener - Scotland's biggest crowd at the Finals.

7,938: The attendance for Scotland's dismal draw in Cordoba, Argentina in 1978 - the lowest-attendance for a Scots game at the tournament.

56: Number of seconds it took Uruguay's Jose Batista to be sent off in the final group stage game against Scotland for an assault on Gordon Strachan. It remains the fastest-ever sending off in World Cup history.

41: Number of goals conceded by Scotland across nine tournaments.

39: Age of the oldest Scotland player at the last tournament so far. Aberdeen keeper Jim Leighton was 39 years, ten months and 30 days old when he appeared in the 3-0 defeat to Morocco in 1998.

31.4: The average of the Scotland squad in their final match at the tournament in 1998. It's the oldest average for a Scotland game at the tournament. The youngest was 26.0 when Scotland played Yugoslavia in 1974.

25: Number of goals scored by Scotland at the World Cup. They have a goal difference of -16.

22: Age of Joe Jordan when he netted in 1974 against Yugoslavia, making him the youngest-ever scorer for Scotland at the Finals.

21: Age of Scotland's youngest-ever player at a World Cup. Celtic's Paul McStay was 21 years, seven months and 22 days old when he played in the 0-0 draw against Uruguay

20: Numbers of clubs represented in Steve Clarke's final 26-man squad based in Scotland, England, Wales, Saudi Arabia, Italy and Croatia.

13: The number of players Scotland took to their first-ever World Cup in 1954, despite being allowed a squad of 18. It left them with just 12 outfield players.

10: Number of World Cups Scotland have qualified for. The SFA refused to go in 1950 despite qualifying for it because they didn't win the British Championships.

There were two from Celtic (Willie Fernie, Neil Mochan), two from Partick Thistle (Jimmy Davidson, Johnny McKenzie) two from Preston North End (Tommy Docherty, Willie Cunningham). The other players were from Aberdeen, Hibs, Dundee, Blackpool and Burnley.
