PM set for Asean-Russia meet

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will travel to Kazan, Russia, on June 17–18 to attend the Asean–Russia Commemorative Summit, where Thailand aims to expand cooperation in trade, investment, energy and other economic sectors under its economic diplomacy policy.

Deputy government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said on Monday that Mr Anutin would depart Thailand this afternoon after a cabinet meeting to attend the summit.

The government expects the forum to generate tangible benefits for Thailand by opening new markets, creating opportunities for Thai businesses, attracting investment and strengthening the country's long-term competitiveness.

During the visit, Mr Anutin is scheduled to attend leaders' meetings, engage with Asean–Russia business representatives and hold discussions with Asean leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leading executives to advance economic cooperation.

Ms Rachada said Thailand must diversify its partnerships amid global economic and geopolitical uncertainty to reduce risks from external factors.

She noted that Russia remains an important player in global supply chains, particularly in energy, fertilisers and raw materials, while Thailand's strengths in agriculture, food and processing industries could help deepen bilateral cooperation and increase trade.

The summit will also provide opportunities to boost ties in energy and food security, promote science, technology and innovation, expand export markets and attract investment in sectors that support long-term economic development, job creation and income growth.
