If you’re umming and ahing about what to have for dindins this week, you’re in luck! ‘Cos MasterChef Australia‘s Hannah Johnson and Pat McGarry will have their dishes stocked at your local Coles after winning a one-in-a-lifetime challenge, giving you the opportunity to have a contest-winning dish at home.
Kicking off Aussie Classics week, celebrity chef Curtis Stone returned to the MasterChef Australia kitchen alongside the Coles mystery box challenge, where winning contestants will not only get immunity, but will also have their dish stocked at the supermarket.
But what made the competition even more fierce was the fact that there were two opportunities to win, as some contestants were tasked with creating a nostalgic pie and the rest, a nostalgic ice-cream flavour.

Ultimately, it was Hannah’s cheeseburger pie that clocked the win, with Poh Ling Yeow describing the idea behind the delectable dish as “totally feral” in the best way possible (will be stealing that for an IG caption).

Reflecting on the moment her dish won the challenge, Hannah admitted that “it was quite a surreal moment” for her.
“It was quite a surreal moment of feeling. Something that I’ve created is going to be accessible to people on a national level, in a shop that I would go to shop for my own family from,” Hannah told PEDESTRIAN.TV
“It’s kind of a little bit mind-blowing.”
Sinking her teeth deeper into the inspo of her cheeseburger pie, Hannah said she was “channelling” the time she spends with her family and kids, and what they would ask for dinner.
“I love to do a little bit of fun food,” she added.
“I’ve already had a little play around with different types of cheeseburger food items. I wonder if I can turn a cheeseburger into a pie as well. So that’s kind of where that little journey started.”

Alongside Hannah’s pie, Pat will also have his ice-cream flavour stocked at Coles.
For folks who’ve yet to feast their eyes on the episode, Pat not only managed to create a competition-winning salted caramel with golden bickie crumb ice cream, but he also whipped up an apple pie to pair with the dish.

Pat shared that his favourite flavour of ice cream is salted caramel and that he used the challenge to elevate that taste. He also shared that he and his partner would always make a caramel slice for special occasions, which served as additional inspo behind his winning dish.
“Me and my partner, whenever we go to like a morning tea or a birthday party or something, we make a caramel ANZAC slice,” he told P.TV.
“So I was like those biscuity flavours will go really good with salted caramel.”
Echoing Hannah’s sentiment on the win and the fact that their dishes will be stocked at Coles, Pat said it was “kind of surreal” knowing that his dish will be accessible nationwide.
“It’s a pretty iconic MasterChef challenge,” Pat shared.
“I’m really proud of what I came up with, and being able to get that win was amazing. It still feels so surreal. I think until I actually see it in itself, it’s gonna like not really hit home properly.”
Although you’re able to taste a piece of MasterChef Australia at home (which is pretty iconic), what I absolutely admire is that you’re also getting a taste of someone’s life, their passions and their inspirations with the Coles winning dish.
Just like Hannah, and how quality time with her family inspired the direction of her pie, and Pat, whose time baking a caramel ANZAC slice with his partner was what inspired his winning ice-cream flavour. It’s a plate (or bowl) of wholesomeness that I’m willing to devour!!!!
Pat’s ice cream and Hannah’s pie will be available in Coles from tomorrow.
