Investigators say Maria was launched from a height of roughly 40 meters (about 130 feet) during a rope-jumping or bungee-style activity. However, the safety cord that was supposed to be attached to her harness was reportedly never connected. As a result, she fell directly from the bridge and suffered fatal injuries.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but she was pronounced dead due to severe trauma caused by the fall.
Video captured the horrifying moment
The tragedy was partially captured on video by witnesses at the scene. Footage circulating online reportedly shows Maria being prepared for the jump before being pushed from the platform. Seconds later, people nearby realized the safety rope was still on the ground and had not been attached. Witnesses can be heard shouting in panic after noticing the mistake.

Fiancé reportedly witnessed the accident
Adding to the tragedy, reports indicate that Maria's fiancé was present during the event and witnessed the fatal fall. Authorities said he suffered severe emotional distress after the incident and required medical attention.

Police detained six individuals connected to the operation. Investigators allege that serious safety failures contributed to Maria's death.
