Man charged with causing death by dangerous driving following two-car crash in north London

A 20-year-old man has been charged after a man in his 20s was killed in a two-car crash in Barnet.

Hasan Hussain, of Tyndall Road, Leyton, was charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving on Monday, May 18.

He appeared today at Highbury Magistrates’ Court where he was bailed to appear at Harrow Crown Court on Tuesday, June 16.

Officers were called to the junction between Whetstone High Road and Chandos Avenue at around 11.30pm on May 14 following reports of a collision between a Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Qashqai.

They attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the front passenger of the Volkswagen, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been named as Sheikh Ayyub Sultan Luchmum.

His next of kin continue to receive support from specialist officers.

Three other people suffered injuries – all have since been discharged from hospital.
