Hunter Valley all-star Aussie tour brings band together after 40 years

Playing for the first time in four decades, Australian Crawl will headline an all-Aussie tour hitting the Hunter Valley later this year.

The Red Hot Summer Tour will open in Toowoomba in Queensland on Saturday, October 17, with dates throughout NSW before coming to the Roche Estate on October 31.

The all-star line-up features Men at Work, Birds of Tokyo, Vika & Linda, Eskimo Joe, Boom Crash Opera and Ella Hooper.

Australian Crawl shaped the Australian music scene between 1978 and 1986 with several hits including Reckless (Don't Be So).

Three original band members in James Reyne, Simon Binks and David Reyne will come together to celebrate the band's music.

They will be joined by John Watson, who played with the band from 1983 to 1986, as well as Brett Kingman, Josh Owen, Andrew McIvor, Sean Johnson, Melinda Jackson and Nicole Kurta.

Simon Binks said he was looking forward to the upcoming celebration of Australian Crawl.

"Who would have thought that this far down the track three original members would be sharing the same stage once again," he said.

David Reyne reflected on the band's early days in the Mornington Peninsula playing gigs at the local board riders' club.

"They swung from the rafters, stomped the floorboards and drank an Army's worth of beer. Buoyed by the reaction, we loaded the gear into the back of a couple of old Holdens and plied our noise all the way up the east coast," he said.

"It was a riot. Each night a howling, joyous, sunburnt shindig. Australian Crawl was born."

James Reyne said the time with the band always left him in "fun and high spirits".

Formed in Melbourne in 1979, Men at Work are best known for their breakthrough hits such as Down Under, Who Can It Be Now, and Be Good Johnny before disbanding in 1985.

Band members Colin Hay and Greg Ham continued to tour as Men at Work from 1996 into the 2000s before Ham's death in 2012.

Since 2019 Hay has toured under the Men at Work banner with a group of LA-based musicians, where he plays an exclusively Men at Work set.

"My favourite Men At Work tour was the summer of 1981, when our stars were in ascension, and we hugged the coast of eastern Australia, and the west from memory," Hay said.

"I very much look forward to returning, 45 years on, to join the Red Hot Summer Tour 2026, to share the stage with old friends and new, and play those songs again, for all those who want to hear them," he said.

The Telstra ticket presale starts on Monday June 22 at 9am with regular presale on Tuesday June 23 at 10am. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9am.
