How Tess Daly and Vernon Kay will split huge fortune as pals say divorce 'not amicable'

Tess Daly and Vernon Kay’s reported plans for how they will split their fortune have been revealed in the wake of their break-up.

The former Strictly host, 57, and Radio 2 DJ, 52, announced earlier this month that they are divorcing after 22 years of marriage.

The former TV power couple - who have two daughters - admitted it had not been an “easy choice” to part ways and said they have “care and respect” for each other.

It was later claimed the split was “not amicable” and that Daly is still “seething” over Kay’s sexting scandal from 2010.

Now, sources have weighed in on how the exes will share their reported £6 million fortune as well as their properties and business interests.

“Vernon and Tess have been clever with their money and invested in joint projects, as well as solo ones,” a source told the Mail.

The insider added: “But both having high income streams means they won't need to battle it over their joint fortune as, individually, they're well off.

“So they'll walk away from this split without taking a hit financially. Compared to the majority of showbiz splits, this is rather straight-forward.”

Kay is thought to be paid around £395,000 from his BBC Radio 2 job, having taken over from Ken Bruce in the mid-morning slot following the broadcasting veteran's exit in 2023.

Daly earned around £400,000 a year as the co-host of Strictly Come Dancing, a role she left in December after 21 years.

She boosts her income with beauty endorsements and her swimwear brand NAIA Beach.

The exes own a five bedroom Buckinghamshire home worth an estimated £3 million, which they bought 22 years ago for £1.18 million.

Kay also owns a house in Bolton bought in 2001 for £110,000, now thought to be worth around £370,000.

The pair control 21TV Limited, which has £739,072 in assets.

In terms of divvying up their fortunes, it is useful that the exes have much of their income publicly declared through their BBC jobs, divorce lawyer David Lister of London-based firm Vardags told the Mail.

He said the “starting point will be to split all the financial assets equally between the two of them” and said it was advantageous that the pair had similar incomes.

The Standard has contacted representatives for Daly and Kay for comment.

It comes after reports that Daly’s friends are furious at Kay because, at the heart of his estranged wife’s anger, is Rhian Sugden, the former Page 3 model whom Vernon was revealed to have been "sexting" in 2010.

They claimed "the ghost of Rhian" has hung over their marriage ever since, even there is no suggestion anything untoward happened between the pair.

In 2010 Kay admitted he sent explicit texts to around five women, going on to apologise to hundreds of thousands of listeners on the Radio 1 show he hosted at the time.

He interrupted the programme to tell his two million listeners he had been “foolish and stupid”.

A month later, Daly said their partnership was “worth fighting for” because they had had “10 great years together” and shared “two beautiful kids”.

The exes said in their split statement this month: “After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably.

“This has not been an easy choice, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire for what is best for both of us.

“We remain great friends and more importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority.

“There are no other parties involved in this decision. We kindly ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this transition together.

“We will not be making any further public comments. Tess and Vernon.”

Kay later said he and Daly wanted to thank BBC Radio 2 listeners for their support.
