Art lovers are invited to explore the perceptual and material relationship between light, transparency and space during "Hiding In The Light", which is running at Richard Koh Fine Art Bangkok until July 11.
This is a solo exhibition by Thai artist Jakapan Vilasineekul who brings a new body of kiln-formed glass works. Working primarily with fused float glass, he investigates the subtle tension between visibility and concealment.
Through layered compositions of intersecting grids, translucent colour fields and geometric structures, he transforms industrial glass into contemplative sculptural forms that shift according to light, shadow and the viewer's position in space.
The works invite viewers into an experience that is both optical and spatial, where clarity and ambiguity coexist simultaneously.
Drawing inspiration from architectural environments and the way glass mediates lived experience, the exhibition considers how light reveals and obscures form. Precise vertical and horizontal lines recur throughout the series, creating a sense of depth and internal rhythm within the works.
As light passes through the glass surfaces, colours refract and overlap, while shadows become extensions of the compositions themselves. In this process, the artworks move beyond static objects and become activated by their surrounding environment.
The exhibition also foregrounds the material qualities of float glass, a common architectural material that the artist re-contextualises through kiln-forming techniques.
Multiple layers of glass are fused together to create internal volume and subtle tonal transitions, while hand-ground satin finishes soften the passage of light across each surface.
These delicate interventions allow the works to oscillate between solidity and transparency, presence and absence.
Richard Koh Fine Art is located on the 9th floor of Peterson Building, Sukhumvit Road and opens Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 7pm.
