Flavor Flav’s parade proposal celebrating female athletes approved in unanimous vote

Flavor Flav is continuing his efforts to uplift women’s sports with a special multi-day event in Las Vegas celebrating female athletes.

The “Shake Your Booty” rapper, 67, whose real name is William Drayton Jr., recently proposed a “SHE Weekend” before the Clark County commission. The festivities, which will include a parade and a concert, were approved in a unanimous vote Tuesday.

Following the approval, Flavor Flav told the commission, “I’m honored to be able to bring these United States Olympic athletes to Las Vegas,” per The Hill. “There’s no better city for me to have these girls celebrate their winnings than Las Vegas.”

The longtime supporter of women’s sports added that his vision was to do “something real good and great for these female athletes that won gold this year.”

“I’m a girl dad and I’m a big supporter of women’s sports,” said the Public Enemy co-founder. Flavor Flav is a father to four daughters and four sons, all of whom he shares with four different women.

The rapper’s manager, Rhiannon Rae Ellis, told the commission that the idea stemmed from “an innocent tweet to support and celebrate female athletes.”

Grammy-nominated Flavor Flav initially suggested the celebration in February, following the U.S. women’s hockey team’s gold medal win at the 2026 Winter Olympics in northern Italy.

The team had originally been invited to the White House for Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. However, they declined the invitation after the president insinuated to the men’s hockey team that he would have to invite the women’s team out of obligation. Flavor Flav later extended his own invite to the Team USA women’s hockey team.

“SHE GOT GAME. July 16-19. Viva Las Vegas,” he captioned a flyer for the event shared on X, alongside a photo of the women’s hockey team in the background.

The city’s commission hailed the SHE Weekend as “a celebration of the most elite women athletes in the United States” but also a “call to action — a platform for lasting social change in women’s sports.”

Flavor Flav has become a prominent and outspoken champion of women’s sports. He attended his first Olympics at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris to support the USA women’s water polo team. There, he went viral for cheering them on from the stands, while decked out in team merchandise. At the time, it was revealed that he had signed a five-year sponsorship deal with the team to be their “official hype man.”

“Supporting USA Water Polo teams is an honor,” he said in the press release at the time. “As a girl dad and a champion of all sports, I’m excited to bring my energy and voice to this incredible sport. Niche sports often don’t get the spotlight they deserve, but they are packed with incredible talent and heart. Together, we’re going to make some serious waves!”
