A fatal crash early on Monday morning has closed part of the M1.
Emergency services were called to the Pacific Motorway near Ourimbah just before 3.30am on June 8 to reports of a head-on crash between a sedan and a ute.
NSW Police said the man driving the sedan was treated by paramedics but he died at the scene.
He had not yet been formally identified, police said.
The male driver of the ute was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
As of 7.10am on Monday morning, Live Traffic NSW showed that southbound lanes between the old Pacific Highway and Peats Ridge Road were closed.
Diversions for light vehicles were in place via the Pacific Highway, Manns Road and the Central Coast Highway to join the Pacific Motorway.
B-doubles up to 19 metres can use Wyong Road, The Entrance Road, York Street, Mann Street, Dane Drive and the Central Coast Highway.
Police have established a crime scene and begun an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
They said initial inquiries suggested the sedan was travelling north in the southbound lanes.
Police were keen to hear from witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that could assist investigators.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Anyone with information was urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
