Facebook privacy settlement checks coming from June 9 - here’s who qualifies, how much you’ll get and everything you need to know

Facebook user privacy settlement : Some Facebook users who already received money from a major privacy settlement are now set to receive a second round of payments, with new checks expected to begin distribution in the second week of June.

This second payout comes from leftover funds in the Facebook, Inc. Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation settlement and applies only to people who previously received and cashed their initial payment, as per an NBC Chicago report.

Court-Approved Second Round of Facebook User Privacy Settlement

A US District Court in California approved this additional distribution after money remained following the first payout round. The remaining funds come from uncashed checks, expired digital payments, and leftover amounts after fees and administrative costs.

According to the settlement website, about 15.7 million people who successfully cashed their first payment are included in this second round. No new claim is required, and eligible recipients will be automatically notified before receiving payment.

Facebook Settlement Notice Emails Begin June 9 for Eligible Users

Emails informing recipients are expected to begin on June 9. Users will receive a notice three to four days before their payment is issued.

Payments will be distributed in batches over a four-week period.

Where the Remaining Facebook User Privacy Settlement Funds Came From

The original settlement covered Facebook users with accounts between 2007 and 2022. Around 250 million people were eligible to file claims, and approximately 19 million claims were filed and validated.

After deductions for fees and distribution costs, about $556 million was allocated. However, more than 200,000 checks were never cashed, and around 3 million digital payments expired, leaving roughly $100 million available for redistribution, as per an El-balad report.
