‘Dikkat Hai Toh Utar Jao’: Ola Driver Accused of Streaming TV Show During Highway Ride

The incident, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), reportedly took place during a journey from Noida to Delhi. According to the passenger, the driver had positioned a mobile phone near the dashboard and was streaming episodes of the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah while operating the vehicle.

Passenger Alleges Driver Refused to Stop

Describing the experience in a viral post, the commuter claimed he politely asked the driver to turn off the video and focus on the road. However, he alleged that the driver responded dismissively, saying, “If it's a problem, then get out.”

The passenger further stated that he was travelling with his wife and younger brother and felt compelled to remain silent due to the circumstances.

“Stranded in the middle of the highway with family in 45-degree heat, we sat quietly, forced into silence. The question is, what's the value of our lives in Uber-Ola?” the user wrote.

Online Reactions Highlight Safety Concerns

The post quickly gained traction online, prompting widespread discussion about distracted driving and the responsibilities of ride-hailing drivers.

Many social media users expressed concern over the potential dangers of watching video content while driving, particularly on highways where driver attention is critical. Several commenters argued that such behavior puts passengers and other road users at risk.

Users Share Similar Experiences

As the discussion grew, numerous users claimed they had witnessed similar incidents involving cab and auto-rickshaw drivers. Some reported seeing drivers watch movies, cricket matches, or short-form videos while behind the wheel, while others mentioned drivers frequently scrolling through social media during rides.

Several users called on ride-hailing companies to strengthen their monitoring systems and take stricter action against drivers found engaging in distracted driving.

One user wrote, “Watching videos while driving is not just a violation of traffic rules but also endangers the lives of passengers. Strict action should be taken against such incidents.”

Another commented, “Companies should not rely solely on ratings and reviews. Passenger safety requires stronger on-ground enforcement and accountability.”

A third user emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents through official channels, stating that passengers should immediately file complaints through the app so that appropriate action can be taken.

Renewed Focus on Passenger Safety

The viral post has once again brought attention to the broader issue of road safety in India's rapidly growing ride-hailing sector. While the allegations remain unverified, the incident has fueled calls for stricter enforcement of safety standards and greater accountability from both drivers and ride-hailing platforms.

As conversations continue online, many passengers are urging cab aggregators to prioritize safety measures that ensure drivers remain fully focused on the road throughout every journey.
