A CHAMPION Scottish boxer has been left “fighting for his life” after an accident in Thailand, with his family describing the scenario as “every parent’s worst nightmare”.

Colin Cairney is reportedly receiving intensive medical care and is on life support following a “devastating accident” while in the south-east Asian country on Sunday.

The family of the Stirling boxer has launched a fundraiser after what they said began as a “normal trip has turned into every parent's worst nightmare”.

Cairney’s family have already raised more than £20,000 after they launched a GoFundMe to help cover the medical costs associated with his treatment, along with arranging for his safe return home.

They said in a statement: “We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help for our son, who has been seriously injured in an accident while in Thailand.

“What began as a normal trip has turned into every parent's worst nightmare. Following the accident, he has required urgent medical treatment and remains far from home, family, and the support network he desperately needs during his recovery.

“While we are incredibly grateful for the care he is receiving, the costs associated with medical treatment, accommodation, travel, and arranging for his safe return home are overwhelming.

“We are doing everything we can, but we need help to bring him back to the UK where he can continue his recovery surrounded by loved ones.”

The 1314 gym in Stirling has also set up a second GoFundMe to support the medical costs, which has also raised more than £26,000.

They wrote: “Our beloved Colin Cairney has been involved in a devastating accident while in Thailand and is currently fighting for his life in hospital. Colin is receiving intensive medical care and remains on life support.

“This has been an incredibly difficult and heart-breaking time for everyone who knows and loves him.

“We are raising funds to help support Colin’s ongoing treatment, due to him not having travel insurance. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease some of the financial pressure during this unimaginable time.”
