Celtic 'watching' second World Cup midfielder as Arne Engels contingency

Celtic are being linked with a second member of Bosnia and Herzegovina's World Cup midfield.

Reports have already suggested the champions are monitoring Brondby midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic.

Playing alongside him at the base of Bosnia's midfield during the draw with co-hosts Canada was Ivan Basic, and the Scottish Sun is reporting he is also on the Parkhead radar.

The 24-year-old plays for Astana in Kazakhstan and got 61 minutes of that World Cup opener, with Celtic reportedly monitoring his performances. They will do so again in the upcoming games against Switzerland and Qatar.

With Arne Engels attracting a lot of interest and possibly moving on to the Premier League or Serie A, Celtic are looking at possible replacements including Tahirovic and Basic.

Basic is Croatia-born but started his senior career with Zrinjski Mostar in Bosnia before moving to Russia with Orenburg and then Astana.
