Celtic Park set to host glamour tie as club confirm blockbuster friendly

Celtic will host AC Milan in a pre-season friendly next month, the club has announced.

The Italian giants will travel to Scotland to take on the Scottish Premiership champions on July 25, with kick-off scheduled for 3 pm on Saturday afternoon.

At the time of writing, neither side has a manager in place, despite reports of Martin O'Neill agreeing to rejoin Celtic on a one-year-deal.

As for the side based in Italy's capital, Milan parted ways with Massimiliano Allegri at the end of last season, with the Rossoneri reportedly in discussions with former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner over the vacant role.

What was once a regular European fixture, particularly in the Champions League, this will be the first time the two sides have met in nearly six years, with the last being a closed-doors affair at the San Siro during the 2020/21 season.

Despite going 2-0 in front that night, the home side ran out 4-2 winners, winning the Celtic Park fixture 3-1 two months before.

Arguably the most memorable fixture between the two sides was the famous 2007 clash at Celtic Park, when Scott McDonald’s last-minute goal sealed a 2-1 victory in a dramatic night in the Champions League group stage.
