Three Chinese nationals and a Thai driver were arrested in Bangkok after a dramatic cross-provincial pursuit by Highway Police.
Police intercepted a speeding pickup truck on Highway 359 in Prachin Buri about 5am on Friday, but the driver ignored orders to stop and fled towards Chachoengsao before being forced to halt on Suwinthawong Road in Nong Chok district.
The driver, Sombat Phrapho, 51, was arrested along with three Chinese men: Li Ming Xiang, 21, Pu Hong Bing, 23, and He Zhi Xing, 34. None has passports.
The driver admitted taking the men from Sa Kaeo to Bangkok for 3,000 baht per person.
The Chinese nationals said they had crossed illegally from Cambodia and intended to continue to Myanmar. Mr Sombat was charged with assisting illegal immigrants, while the three Chinese men were charged with illegal entry. Police are seeking additional suspects linked to the smuggling network.
