Win A Stay at Taronga Wildlife Retreat By Helping These Changemakers Hit Their Conservation Goals

Brought to you by our mates at

Calling all conservation warriors: Taronga and LG need your help to select a winner for this year’s LG Life’s Good Award and they’re even offering a prize for your time.

This is all part of the Hatch: Taronga Accelerator program, supported by LG, which this year backs five Aussie start-ups, each handpicked for their unique perspective on tackling the environment’s most pressing issues. Over 14 intensive weeks, the program helps guide the cohort to realise their sustainability goals to their fullest potential.

As an active partner, LG has already provided the start-ups some brand spankin’ new LG products valued at $3,000. And if that wasn’t generous enough, they’re also presenting one of these inspirational innovators (conservation connoisseurs, if you will) with the LG Life’s Good Award, recognising their efforts and granting them $5,000 to support their mission.

This is where you guys come in. LG needs your help to select a winner, and in return for your time, they’re generously gifting one lucky voter an overnight stay at Taronga’s Wildlife Retreat.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, right? Here’s how to get involved.

How to vote

All you have to do is head to the voting page through the LG site, fill in your details so that you’re in the running for a prize, and select your favourite Hatch program participant. Once you hit submit, that’s one step closer for that nominee to hitting their conservation goals, and one step closer for you to win a stay at the Wildlife Retreat with the fam.

So now that you’re a voting expert, allow me to inform your choices even more with a rundown of this year’s award candidates.

Bruny Island Seafarms
Creating jobs and stimulating the rural Tasmanian economy, this sustainable operation is aiming to tackle the impacts of aquaculture with its regenerative sea-farming methods. The community-based project aims to grow mussels, oysters and seaweed innovatively and sustainably to prove that regenerative aquaculture is good for the people and the planet as the practice also helps to clean the water of other activities and operations. How’s that for a rural community slay?

Kraken Systems
These guys are the future of human-shark co-existence, developing non-harmful prevention tech that aims to protect both beachgoers and resident sharks. Their innovative technology studies sharks and works with nature — not against it — to ensure that all parties can surf and swim safely in our waters. After all, an ecosystem only thrives when everyone’s lives are protected!

Plante
Did you guys know that only eight per cent of plastic plant pots are recycled each year? I’m no mathematician but that’s gotta mean a whole lot of landfill. Plante noticed this and is on a mission to end plastic pot waste by creating a biodegradable pot alternative that you can also plant straight into the ground. Nervous re-planters rejoice, ‘cos this no-transfer sustainable potting solution is the answer to all your gardening prayers (and the environment’s too).

GreenPay
If you ever needed another reason to treat yo’ self, GreenPay has created a payment system that directly supports Australian conservation programs. Offering end-to-end payment solutions that can be managed in and out of the store, this company is helping businesses demonstrate their passion for environmentalism by turning everyday transactions into conservation action. So about that shirt you splurged on the other day? Don’t sweat it! With GreenPay, your purchase is a part of the growing push to fund conservation projects in Australia. #Worthit.

Ludis
Ludis believes that everyone deserves a second chance, especially tennis balls. Tackling the environmental burden of mass-producing virgin materials, Ludis is repurposing old tennis balls into durable, sustainable soles for footwear brands. Hoping to expand to other sporting products in the future (this is where your vote comes in), this brand is spearheading impactful pathways to tackle sporting waste. Now that’s what I call an ace idea.

Everyone’s a winner, baby

So there you have it, an overview of how the simple act of voting can go a long way. Who knew being a conservation warrior was so easy?

And don’t forget, not only are you lending a helping hand to Australia’s future sustainability leaders, you could also be rewarded with an overnight stay at Taronga’s Wildlife Retreat.

Supporting Australia’s sustainable future and getting rewarded for it? I guess life really is good when we do good together.
