Police provided an update on investigations into recent incidents of vandalism at Canberra sportsgrounds, and a looming operation to crackdown on legal and illegal vehicles damaging community facilities around the capital.
It comes as more jaw-dropping footage was released of a car doing donuts on a field at Wanniassa in broad daylight, which led to soccer games being cancelled.
The incident captured on camera by a member of the public occurred a fortnight ago around lunchtime mid-week.
But just last weekend the same sportsground was hit yet again by cars that ran through log barriers to tear up the grass, forcing multiple matches to be shifted as soccer club volunteers scrambled to fix the damage.
Tuggeranong United president Stan Mitchell said the repeated vandalism and "anti-social behaviour" at the ground was reported to police, and authorities were progressing their investigations.
Of greater concern for the soccer club was the impact to the sports community that will not be able to use the field while it was being repaired.
"The damage at Wanniassa 1 and 2 fields is going to take a long time to assess," Mitchell said.
The vision follows clips obtained by The Canberra Times last week, showing large groups of youths riding on electric and petrol bikes through soccer matches at Giralang, terrorising players and parents, with reports of corner flags also being stolen at Bonython.
ACT Policing told The Canberra Times it is yet to lock in a start date for the operation to eliminate unruly behaviour by vehicles including cars, e-bikes, petrol and electric motorcycles.
"Chief Police Officer Scott Lee confirmed this week that a targeted operation would be established to address anti-social behaviour across the community and incidents of criminal damage at sportsgrounds by both legal and illegal vehicles," a spokesperson said.
"This operation is in its planning stages and will commence soon. A range of operational activities are expected to occur to enforce current laws and address this increasingly occurring crime type.
"More information will be provided to the community when the operation commences."
Authorities confirmed that "investigations remain ongoing" regarding recent sportsground damage incidents.
"No arrests have been made at this time and anyone with information about the alleged offenders should contact Crime Stoppers via www.crimestoppers.com.au."
On Saturday afternoon an illegal motorbike reportedly seen riding near Holt sports fields was seized by police at Melba shops.
Police identified the rider as a 16-year-old boy, with the motorcycle found to be unroadworthy and unregistered.
