US players fume over ‘strange’ mixup that sparked World Cup friendly chaos

  • US soccer star Christian Pulisic expressed his frustration over the “strange" kit issue that sparked confusion during a friendly match against Belgium.
  • Players found it difficult to differentiate teammates from opponents due to each team’s kits, impacting their decision-making on the pitch.
  • The US team wore new Nike jerseys with red and white horizontal stripes, while Belgium sported new Adidas away kits in light 'Frozen Blue' with pink and black trim.
  • Following Saturday's 5-2 defeat, Pulisic stated, "That can’t happen. It was a bit strange." American midfielder Weston McKennie added, “It definitely was a little bit difficult whenever you do like a quick glance to tell which was which. It was almost like a 50-50 thing.”
  • Both teams had exchanged uniform plans and match officials cleared the kits before the game. No alternative kits were available on site, meaning players had to continue with the confusing attire for the entire match.
