Trump can’t decide if the fund is dead - So the Senate can’t move on

  • Democrats and a faction of Republicans are actively trying to block the creation of this settlement fund, intended to compensate individuals claiming political persecution.
  • Republicans defeated an amendment by Senator Bill Cassidy that sought to redirect payments from the controversial fund to law enforcement officers injured during the January 6, 2021, attack.
  • Another amendment by Senator Thom Tillis to ban the settlement fund and reallocate the money to an anti-fraud fund was also rejected, despite some Republican support.
  • While Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche asserted that the fund would not proceed, Donald Trump recently stated that the settlement is "very important" and that its future is uncertain, further complicating the bill's passage.
