Southampton fire jab at Arsenal after shock FA Cup quarter-final victory

Southampton poked fun at Arsenal in the wake of their FA Cup quarter-final victory.

The Saints defeated the Gunners late on at St Mary’s to progress into the semi-finals of the competition.

Tonda Eckert’s side won 2-1 in Hampshire as Ross Stewart and Shea Charles got the goals, with Viktor Gyokeres levelling for the Premier League leaders.

The result leaves Southampton as the lowest-ranked side left in the FA Cup, and they could face either Chelsea, Man City, Leeds or West Ham in the last four, with the draw taking place on Sunday evening.

Arsenal arrived on the south coast off the back of a disappointing Carabao Cup final defeat by Manchester City, who snared the first silverware of the campaign in a 2-0 victory at Wembley Stadium.

It dashed the Gunners’ hopes of a quadruple, with many supporters online growing in belief that the unthinkable was possible.

But Southampton’s official X account decided to have a bit of fun with one Arsenal fan in particular after the match.

The Saints posted a graphic at full-time, captioned “We’re going to Wembley!”, to which one Gunners fan responded: “Fluke win.”

The Southampton account hit back in joking fashion, replying: “Enjoy your quadruple, pal.”

Arsenal’s focus now turns to the Premier League, where they lead City by nine points with seven games to go, and the Champions League, where they face Sporting Lisbon in the first of their two quarter-final legs this coming week.
