Scott Mills speaks out for first time after BBC Radio 2 sacking

  • Scott Mills, a former BBC Radio 2 DJ, has issued his first public statement since the BBC announced his sacking earlier this week, saying he has been subject to “rumour and speculation”.
  • In his statement, Mills confirmed the police investigation related to him, stated he cooperated fully, and requested privacy given the allegations date back nearly 30 years and the police investigation closed seven years ago.
  • He added: “I wish to thank from the bottom of my heart all those who have reached out to me with kindness, my former colleagues, and my beloved listeners, who I greatly miss.”
  • The BBC terminated Mills' contracts over "allegations about his personal conduct" after receiving "new information" in recent weeks.
  • The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into Mills in 2016 over allegations of serious sexual offences involving a teenage boy between 1997 and 2000. Mills was questioned under caution in 2018, and the case was dropped in May 2019 due to a lack of evidence, with the Crown Prosecution Service determining the evidential threshold was not met.
