Scott Mills gets public support from Zoe Ball and Sara Cox as his husband shares emotional post

Scott Mills was given public support from a slew of BBC stars as his husband Sam Vaughan marked the couple’s anniversary on social media.

The former BBC Radio 2 DJ was sacked in March after it emerged he was investigated over alleged serious sexual offences against a boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000.

The 53-year-old allegedly stayed in contact with the boy for years until around 2006. The investigation was dropped due to lack of evidence.

He is reportedly planning to sue the BBC for “unfair dismissal” over his sacking.

Amid the controversy, Vaughan broke his social media silence to celebrate their two-year wedding anniversary on Instagram.

He shared a black and white photograph of the pair from their wedding day and wrote, “Two years,” alongside a red heart emoji.

The comment section was flooded with comments from friends and former colleagues including Rylan Clark, Sara Cox and Zoe Ball.

Ball wrote, “Love you” alongside a series of heart emojis, while Clark and Cox commented with heart emojis.

It is the first time Vaughan has posted since Mills was sacked by the BBC, shortly before it emerged the Metropolitan Police had launched an investigation into the 53-year-old in 2016 over allegations of serious sexual offences involving a boy under 16.

The BBC confirmed it knew about the police investigation into Mills in 2017, but said it “acted decisively” after receiving “new information” in the weeks before his sacking.

The police investigation was closed in 2019 after prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence to bring charges.

In April, Mills released a statement through his lawyers saying he had been the subject of “rumour and speculation” since his sacking.

He added that he had “co-operated fully” with the police investigation into the allegations.

Veteran DJ Gary Davies has been filling in as breakfast show host since Mills was taken off the air, with Cox taking over the role in the summer.

Since his firing, Mills has lost a series of job opportunities including being replaced as the host of the Race Across The World podcast and has been removed from episodes of Top Of The Pops.

He was also pulled from supporting Boyzone’s concerts this summer and a Great British Bake Off celebrity episode featuring him has been removed.
