Riot will pay non-partnered VCT 2027 teams up to $400K for qualifying

Riot Games is offering non-partner VALORANT teams their biggest financial opportunity yet. Under the VCT 2027 ecosystem, organizations can earn up to $400,000 simply for qualifying for Champions, with additional payouts available throughout the season.

The developer shared additional details about the VCT 2027 ecosystem on June 18, outlining how VALORANT esports teams will progress through the open circuit and what rewards await those who reach the season’s biggest events.

For the first time in the game’s esports, Riot will offer guaranteed qualification payouts to non-partner teams based on their competitive achievement. The rewards include:

  • Qualify for a Kickoff event or Cup: $100,000.
  • Qualify for Masters: $200,000.
  • Qualify for Champions: $400,000.

These payments are separate from tournament prize pools, travel support, and other ecosystem incentives available throughout the season. They also announced an additional incentive for the Game Changers ecosystem. Non-partner teams that qualify for the Game Changers Championship will receive an extra $100,000 payment.

Why Riot is introducing qualification payouts in VCT 2027

The monetary incentive provides one of the clearest examples yet of how Riot plans to support organizations outside of its partnership program.

Since unveiling the VCT 2027 ecosystem earlier this year in April, the developer has emphasized that teams should be able to earn their way into top-level competition through performance. The new qualification payouts are designed to help organizations sustain operations while competing through the open circuit.

“VCT 2027 is built around a simple belief: the best teams should earn their place every step of the way and every match matters. We wanted to create a system that rewards performance, opens more opportunities for teams around the world, and makes every match feel meaningful.” Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, said. “By creating more paths into top-level competition and providing meaningful financial support for teams that qualify, we’re building a more open, engaging, and competitive future for VALORANT Esports. One where any team can rise, every event matters, and fans have more reasons to follow the journey from local competition all the way to Champions.”

Alongside the new financial incentives, they shared additional details about how teams will progress through the VCT ecosystem in 2027.

Kickoff tournaments in VCT Americas, EMEA, and Pacific will feature 12 teams, including eight partner organizations and four teams advancing from Open Qualifiers. The top three teams from each Kickoff will qualify directly for the Masters event.

Partner teams will no longer be guaranteed spots at future events. Organizations that fail to perform at Cups or Masters will drop into Open Playoffs and must earn their way back into top-tier competition. Teams without previous results, as well as those eliminated early from open competition, will return to Open Qualifiers, creating a promotion and relegation system throughout the season.

The developer also confirmed South Asia and Oceania will qualify through the Pacific Wild Card pathway. The publisher expanded opportunities in the Pacific region by creating dedicated competitions for Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, adding new routes for players and teams from some of VALORANT’s fastest-growing regions.

In China, Riot will continue using its visitor team model. Kickoff events will feature eight partner teams, two visitor teams, and two Open Qualifier teams, with partner and visitor organizations receiving direct entry into Kickoff and the first two Cups.

The company also introduced roster continuity rules for open and creator-led teams. Organizations that retain at least three of their five starting players will maintain their points and qualification status throughout the season, enabling teams to build long-term stability in the VCT ecosystem.

More details regarding slot allocation, regional qualification formats, and partner team selection are expected to be revealed ahead of VALORANT Champions 2026 in Shanghai, China.
