Power strips sold on Amazon recalled over fire risk

  • The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of CCCEI Power Strips sold on Amazon over a risk of the product catching fire.
  • The power strips do not contain “supplementary overcurrent protection”, making them at risk of catching fire if they are overloaded, which could cause serious injury or death.
  • More than 5,500 of the recalled power strips were sold on Amazon from April 2024 to this past January, for between $23 and $30.
  • Middle Way Electronics, the China-based retailer which sells the recalled power strips, has received at least two reports of the product sparking and melting, though no fires or injuries have been officially reported yet.
  • This recall follows a separate warning earlier this month from the CPSC regarding Wagner 900 Series Power Steamers, which were recalled due to a burn hazard from hot hoses and expelled hot water, leading to over 50 reported burn injuries.
