A PERSON has died after being hit by a train in North Lanarkshire.
Emergency services were called to the line near Coatbridge at around 7.58pm on Monday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics attended the incident, where the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
ScotRail confirmed in a statement that some services between Motherwell and Cumbernauld were cancelled while officers carried out their investigations.
The line was closed for around two and a half hours and was later reopened at around 10.41pm.
British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and that a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Coatbridge at 7.58pm yesterday (18 May) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
ScotRail said in a statement posted on social media on Monday evening: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Coatbridge Central and Greenfaulds, trains on this route are currently subject to disruption.”
In an updated post, the train operator said: “Disruption caused by the emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway earlier today between Coatbridge Central and Cumbernauld has now ended.”
