Pedestrian killed in car crash at Lake Macquarie

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car at Lake Macquarie on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called to Wyee Road, near Bethshan Street, just after 7pm after reports a woman had been struck by a black sedan.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 45-year-old woman at the scene but she could not be revived.

The woman was yet to be formally identified on Monday morning.

The driver of the black sedan involved in the crash, a woman aged in her 40s, was taken to Wyong hospital for mandatory testing.

Lake Macquarie Police District officers established a crime scene and launched an investigation into circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Wyee Road, between Bethshan Street and Ruttleys Road, remained closed due to an ongoing police operation overnight.
