Break-ins 'continue': police warning after armed home invasion in north Canberra

Police are urging Canberrans to secure their homes and vehicles after multiple armed offenders targeted an Evatt home over the long weekend.

The incident on McGill Street reportedly occurred about 2am, on Sunday, May 31.

ACT Policing said burglars disturbed residents inside the house before one of the occupants chased them outside.

Once outside, police say the occupant was confronted by three people, two of which threatened the resident with knives.

The offenders were all wearing dark hooded jumpers, black facial coverings and dark or grey pants, police said.

The group was last seen running towards the Ginninderra Creek green belt, near McGill Street, towards Read Place.

"ACT Policing is reminding the community to ensure their homes and vehicles are secure at all times," an ACT Policing spokesman said in a public statement on Monday, June 1.

"Offenders continue to try and gain entry to residences to steal vehicle keys and other valuables."

Anyone who had information about the Evatt incident or dashcam footage of the area before 2am on Sunday morning has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers ACT quoting 8401460.
