Norman Caruso, YouTuber behind the Gaming Historian, calls it quits after 15 years

Longtime YouTuber Norman Caruso has announced that he is stepping away from making new videos after more than 15 years. Caruso communicated this through a video uploaded to his YouTube channel titled “Gaming Historian.” Caruso made it known that this move is not due to any form of controversy or drama, but rather because of how tired he is after spending many years making videos on video game history.

He said that his latest large project, a video on The Oregon Trail, took a very long time to complete. Although he was satisfied with the end product, the experience had drained him. He said that after completing it, the idea of starting a new project felt too difficult. He also shared that he felt like he was not giving enough time to other important parts of his life.

Caruso said that he did not quit right away. Instead, he decided to try working in his channel part-time, thinking that it might revive his passion for doing what he was doing. However, even after two years, he was still not enthusiastic about producing more content. Even trying out a new project did not help him at all. Because of this, he decided it was better to stop rather than create something that did not match the quality of his past work.

Before leaving, Caruso shared what his next video might have been. It was about a famous court case between Universal Studios and Nintendo over the game Donkey Kong. He spent weeks collecting important documents from the case. Instead of turning them into a video, he uploaded them online for everyone to see. This includes rare materials like design papers and notes from Shigeru Miyamoto. He also shared these with the Video Game History Foundation.

Even though he is leaving YouTube videos, Caruso is not stopping completely. He said he will continue making content through a podcast with his wife called An Old Timey Podcast. His YouTube channel will also stay online, so fans can still watch all his old videos.

Finally, the choice of Caruso emphasizes the importance of self-care. Having worked hard for many years, he opted for relaxation and contentment rather than stress, and a lot of fans are backing his decision.
