Noah Wyle Under Fire for Seemingly Shading His Co-Star From ‘The Pitt’ and a Beloved Horror Franchise

The Pitt star Noah Wyle is, once again, making headlines… for an odd reason. A clip of Wyle’s recent interview with Deadline‘s The Actor Side with Pete Hammond has gone viral… but not for anything that Wyle specifically says about The Pitt itself. The clip in question sees Wyle praising some of his The Pitt co-stars for going to do Broadway productions in between the filming of seasons, instead of doing “the million dollar horror movie.”

“I mean, how often do you get an ensemble that the second they get their first breath of freedom, after they get their first breath of fame,” Wyle explains in the clip, “go not to do the million dollar horror movie, but go right back to the Broadway stage or go work on their chops as performers?”

Some fans quickly began to see this as a slight towards Shawn Hatosy, who also starred alongside Wyle on ER before jumping over to play Dr. Jack Abbot on The Pitt. Hatosy recently appeared as Titus Danforth, the de facto big bad of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, the sequel to 2019’s horror hit Ready or Not that debuted in theaters this past March.

Either way, fans of The Pitt have definitely taken issue with these comments, the way they delegitimize the horror genre, and the weird outlook Wyle seems to have about the film industry as a whole. As Twitter user @dosedbyher puts it: “im so confused where this pretentiousness is coming from. noah wyle has never been in any broadway production. belittling the horror genre while “complimenting” these actors for the niche, underground, sanctimonious work that is BROADWAY?”

What a Weird Hill to Die On…

Some have also argued that Wyle’s perspective is shaped by the fact that he didn’t really “break into” the movie industry after his time on ER, largely remaining a leading man on shows like Falling Skies and The Librarians.

“it rlly feels like he has this weird superiority complex abt the fact he ‘stuck it out’ on er and didn’t get into movies like his costars LMAOO like,” @yuriinthepitt writes. “bro HATES the movies he hates the box office do NOT ask him to become an amc a lister or he will k1ll u omg”

The comments are even funnier given the fact that Ready or Not 2 was not some massive production costing (or even grossing) tens of millions of dollars. Its reported budget was $14 million, and it only grossed a modest $42.4 million worldwide. Sure, that’s a different echelon from the economics of a Broadway show, or the more DIY-friendly horror of films like Obsession, which has already grossed substantially more than its budget of $750,000. But it’s also nowhere near actual big-budget horror of something like Scream 7, which had a budget of $45 million and grossed nearly a quarter of a billion at the box office.

Wyle acting like a mid-budget horror movie is “selling out” is an interesting choice. As a tweet from @1800clockit puts it: “noah wyle shading shawn hatosy for doing a “million dollar horror movie” and the film in question is Ready or Not 2. really girl that’s an issue for you.”
