Newly elected Reform councillor admits she doesn’t understand how council works

A new Reform UK councillor admitted that she “doesn’t understand” how the council works.

Kirklees Council attempted to elect their new leader at their annual meeting on Wednesday (20 May), however chaos soon ensued and the council was left leaderless.

Whilst Reform UK councillor Sarah Wood and Green Party councillor Andrew Cooper nominated themselves, neither were able to secure a majority. When a Conservative councillor suggested orders be suspended so the two could debate for the win, Wood objected.

“I do not understand the constitution. I have not had sufficient time to read that yet,” she said.

She argued that the move would put her party at a “disadvantage”. She explained: “We do not necessarily know what we are voting for.”
