New Witcher 3 expansion revealed alongside updated PC requirements

One of gaming’s worst-kept secrets, a new The Witcher 3 expansion, finally sees the sun as CD Projekt Red revealed it on a random Wednesday via an X post. Originally scheduled to be announced during its upcoming RedStreams on May 28, the studio decided to drop the bomb on this much-anticipated reveal after it leaked earlier on the REDlauncher.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is the third major story expansion for the game. It arrives in 2027, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Interestingly, this new expansion is being co-developed by CDPR and Fool’s Theory, the Polish studio behind 2024’s turn-based RPG, The Thaumaturge. Players can expect more details later this summer.

While concrete details remain up in the air, CDPR has at least confirmed that players will take to the path once again with Geralt of Rivia. Butcher of Blaviken seems to have been enjoying a well-deserved retirement at the end of The Witcher 3’s second expansion, Blood and Wine, though it seems the wind’s beginning to howl again for him.

Earlier rumours suggested that this 11-year-in-the-making expansion will fill in the gap between The Witcher 3 and the upcoming The Witcher 4, leading directly into the events of the upcoming fourth entry.

It’s worth mentioning that Songs of the Past is launching exclusively on current-gen platforms, including PC, unlike the previous The Witcher 3 expansions. To that end, CDPR has revealed an updated PC system requirement that’s probably worth checking out for anyone looking to return to the Continent later next year.

So far, CDPR has only revealed the minimum system requirements for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i5-8400
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB
  • VRAM: 6 GB
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • Storage: 70 GB SSD
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 11

In addition to these, CDPR is making some fundamental changes, such as a mandatory SSD requirement for better performance and DirectX 12 support for future technical improvements.

As mentioned above, fans can expect more details on The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past later this summer. With three gaming showcases on the horizon – PlayStation’s State of Play, Xbox Games Showcase, and Summer Game Fest. Perhaps, fans won’t have to wait very long to learn about this exciting third-story expansion for CDPR’s beloved action RPG.
