Bangkok is a city that never sleeps, at least in the food and beverage department. Blink and you’ll miss another new restaurant opening, a drink launch, or a new nightclub. Guru By Bangkok Post is making sure that even if you blink, you don’t miss out on the new taste tinglers that are worth mentioning, in Bangkok and beyond.
The Levant
Centara Grand at CentralWorld recently opened The Levant, a new Arabic dining concept on the 24th floor, drawing from the culinary traditions of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine.
Rooted in a culture of gathering, the experience reflects a style of dining where dishes are placed at the centre of the table and shared over conversation. The restaurant is certified to halal standards, ensuring that the menu aligns with traditional preparation methods. The menu follows the rhythm of Levantine cooking, beginning with mezze and moving through salads, charcoal-grilled selections and desserts. Familiar preparations sit alongside staples that define the region’s everyday table.
The meal opens with a range of mezze, including babaganoush and mouttabal, built around chargrilled aubergine, alongside hummus finished with olive oil and muhammara, made with roasted red peppers, walnuts and pomegranate molasses. Warm selections such as kibbeh, sambousak and falafel offer contrast in texture, while warak enab, vine leaves filled with rice and herbs, reflects the slower, more traditional side of the cuisine.
Salads remain central to the table, with tabbouleh, fattoush and watercress with lemon dressing bringing freshness and balance. From there, the focus shifts to the grill, where meats and seafood are cooked over charcoal, a defining technique of the region. Dishes such as lamb kofta, shish taouk, shish kebab and lamb chops sit alongside grilled hammour (grouper) and giant prawns, each prepared with a restrained use of spice to highlight the ingredient itself.
For a more complete experience, the mixed grill brings together a selection of skewers and seafood, while plates such as chicken shawarma with rice and garlic sauce offer a familiar point of entry. The menu closes with desserts including kunafa, baklava and muhallabia, where rose, syrup and nuts define the final course. The kitchen is led by chef Muhannad Abdul Hadi Qasem, Arabic sous chef at Centara Grand at CentralWorld.
The drinks list follows a similar direction, with Arabic coffee and Turkish coffee served alongside teas such as karkade. House refreshments include limonana, a blend of fresh lime and mint, and a non-alcoholic piña colada, while fresh juices and smoothies keep the offering light. A small selection of non-alcoholic sparkling wines is also available.
Norimaki by Onitsuka Tiger
Onitsuka Tiger’s new store in Dusit Central Park is the world’s first and blends fashion with the enjoyment of food and beverages at "Norimaki by Onitsuka Tiger".
The fashion retail area, restaurant and café are connected within an open space while maintaining privacy through the use of wooden partitions made from yoshino hinoki (Japanese cypress), sourced from Nara prefecture and known for its premium quality. The sushi counter also uses the same material, inspired by the elegance of sushi counters in Ginza while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. The café counter reinterprets the gesture of a chef serving sushi piece by piece on a "tsukedai" (serving board), enhanced with traditional Urushi lacquer in black and vermilion tones.
At Norimaki by Onitsuka Tiger, authentic sushi is crafted by world-class Japanese chef Yuichi Arai, known for blending traditional techniques with his unique style. Chef Arai is also renowned for delivering intimate yet refined omakase experiences. His restaurant “Sushi Arai”, an Edomae-style omakase establishment, is ranked among the top five and is one of the most difficult reservations to secure in Tokyo’s Ginza district.
At Norimaki by Onitsuka Tiger, premium fresh tuna is imported directly from Japan, particularly “Yamayuki Maguro”, a top-grade bluefin tuna favoured by high-end omakase and Michelin-starred restaurants. Known among chefs as the “King Of Tuna”, it is rigorously selected and meticulously prepared, offering a rich, smooth, and elegantly balanced flavour.
A wide range of coffee, tea, and smoothies is available. Special attention is given to premium Japanese teas, alongside renowned Thai tea. A recommended signature drink is “Matcha Thai tea”, a unique fusion of Thai tea prepared using Japanese brewing techniques.
The fashion zone offers a wide range of the brand’s popular items, including apparel, bags, shoes, and accessories. Special collections such as Contemporary Collection, Heritage Collection, Denivita and collaborations with Astro Boy are also available, along with Thailand-exclusive products including shoes, T-shirts and hats.
Erawan Tea Room x Err Urban Rustic Thai By Bo.Lan
Until July 31, Erawan Tea Room at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok will collaborate with Err Urban Rustic Thai, a Bangkok-based concept restaurant by the chefs of Bo.lan.
On offer are tasting menus for lunch and dinner, which offer a selection of small bites that showcase the playful spirit of Err and the refined heritage of Erawan Tea Room. Enjoy Red curry pancakes with prawns, steamed minced pork with crab meat, and Thai cupcake filled with grilled panang chicken. The interesting twist is that the “cupcake” isn’t the usual dessert cupcake, but a crispy Thai pastry cup filled with fiery aromatic chicken curry, offering a delightful contrast of textures and flavours.
The experience continues with Grilled Surin beef ribs in coconut curry, a dish from northeastern Surin, highly regarded for its deep-rooted cattle-rearing culture, the richness of locally raised beef, and the bold, smoky character of Surin-style grilling. Another standout dish is the Pandan chicken, deep-fried with precise heat control to ensure a tender, juicy finish. As the pandan leaves gently infuse the meat, the dish releases a distinctly fragrant aroma, creating a comforting expression of a beloved Thai classic.
Erawan Tea Room’s signature afternoon tea presents a special edition for the collaboration, featuring a curated selection of delicacies with layers of Thai character. Savoury highlights include Golden fritters with chicken turmeric, crispy vermicelli and mini ka-toy crab, complemented by distinctive sweet creations such as Sweet crepe with golden threads and Thai tea macaron with palm nectar agar agar. Enjoy award-winning teas, served hot or cold, including Ember White No. 6 blended white tea, Wang Put Tan’s Sweet Blossom and Hojicha Oolong.
At Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, a Tea Cocktail Dinner created by chef Bo and chef Fai in partnership with the Tea and Coffee Institute of Mae Fah Luang University aims at promoting local Thai tea and coffee. The dinner explores tea as both an ingredient and a pairing element, expressed through a series of dishes and tea-inspired cocktails. Available on June 26 at Erawan Tea Room.
Cocoa Xo
Cocoa Xo at Centara Grand at CentralWorld presents a refreshed edition of its signature Chocolate Buffet, now crafted with Callebaut chocolate.
