Motorola Razr 2026: Rumors, leaks, and what we want to see

A leaked rendering of the Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 in a brushed silver colorway, showing a familiar design to its 2025 variant.

The Razr 2025 series took Motorola's flip phones to a new level, with the company offering three models, including the premium-tier Razr Ultra. It's the first time in a while that the company has been able to truly compete with Samsung's high-end Ultra phones, at least in the U.S., where Edge phones aren't quite as abundant.

While the Razr 2025 series helped Motorola rise in the foldable phone market, we now look to the Razr 2026 series, which is expected to launch soon. We don't know everything about Motorola's upcoming phones, but some leaks have revealed a bit of what we can expect from the next Razr flagships.

Here, we'll be compiling all the rumors, leaks, and what we expect to see from Motorola's successful foldable in the coming year.

Motorola Razr 2026: Models, price and release date

Last year's Razr 2025 series was launched at the end of April 2025, with in-store availability in the U.S. starting in mid-May. If last year's schedule is anything to go by, the Razr 2026 series is likely to launch at the end of April, although we haven't heard anything official about a launch or release.

An early leak revealed that Motorola is likely launching three devices this year, just as it did with the Razr 2025 series. However, the Razr Plus 2026 will likely be a U.S.-only model, as it doesn't appear to match the international variant's naming scheme.

As for pricing, the Razr 2025 series started at $699 for the cheapest model, with the Razr Plus 2025 at $999 and the Razr Ultra 2025 at $1,299. Normally, we'd expect prices to stay the same between generations, but given the current RAM crisis, it's possible Motorola could raise prices for the Razr 2026, something we've already seen with the newly launched Moto G Stylus 2026.

Of course, Motorola could find ways to avoid raising prices. Last year, the company launched the Razr Ultra 2025 with a base storage capacity of 512GB and a larger 1TB variant. A smaller 256GB option could allow Motorola to launch the Razr Ultra 2026 at the same price or lower, making the phone more appealing to consumers.

Motorola has been expanding its repertoire of alternative materials on phones, particularly on the Razr line, and we fully expect to see that make a comeback in 2026. If Motorola can offer vegan leather on phones that are less than $200, there's no reason to expect the company to return to breakable glass on its foldable line.

We also don't expect Motorola to stray from the "flip" form factor any time soon. While Motorola continually experiments with different smartphone form factors, it's pretty clear it thinks that phones are best in a vertical form factor rather than expanding to look like a tablet.

The Razr design seems to be settled on, so we don't expect there to be too many differences in this department. Recent leaks of the Razr 2026 and Razr Ultra 2026 suggest that the devices may be largely identical, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The leaked CAD render above depicts what the Razr Ultra 2026 may look like. From what we can see, there are little to no changes in the design aside from the color and material on the back. As usual, Motorola will probably offer a new selection of color options and materials. One of the most recent leaks reveals a darker wood shade alongside a vibrant purple Alcantara option, which you can see below.

We also got a look at the Razr 2026, which is expected to be the cheaper option. As seen in a regulatory filing, the Razr 2026 should also look identical to its predecessor, although the image reveals a light pink color.

According to the Tenaa filing, the base Razr will measure 171.3×73.9×7.2mm unfolded, which more or less matches the dimensions of the Razr 2025. The Razr Ultra 2026, on the other hand, will apparently measure 171.3 x 74.1 x 7.8 mm unfolded, which means it will be a bit thicker than the Razr Ultra 2025, which measures 171.5 x 74 x 7.3mm. It's not sure what's making the phone thicker, although it could be due to a larger battery or Qi2.

Unfortunately, we haven't seen any images of the Razr Plus 2026, which we expect to launch alongside the other two models.

Motorola Razr 2026: Hardware and specs

We're expecting some bigger spec bumps for the Razr 2026 series, though there are still many unknowns. The Razr Ultra 2026 is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm's top-of-the-line chipset. This will be one of the main differing factors between this and the upcoming Razr Fold, which will be powered by the slightly underpowered Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

Motorola will likely stick to 16GB of RAM on the Ultra, although we hope to see more (and lower) storage options.

Meanwhile, the Tenaa filing for the Razr 2026 reveals various storage sizes going all the way up to 1TB. It also shows up to 18GB of RAM, though it's unclear whether these variants will be available globally. The filing also shows a chip with eight cores and a 2.75GHz clock speed, which could point to the MediaTek Dimensity 8000. The battery looks smaller at 4,275mAh, although it's unclear how accurate that is.

On the plus side, the filing reveals two 50MP cameras, up from the 50+13MP setup on the Razr 2025. One of these cameras could support 3x optical zoom, suggesting Motorola may swap the ultrawide for a telephoto camera.

For now, if a Razr Plus 2026 is coming, we haven't heard much of anything about it. However, we at least hope that Motorola gives it a newer, more powerful chipset to keep it a compelling middle option for the Razr series.

Motorola Razr 2026: Software and AI

Motorola's software isn't the flashiest, but the company has been steadily improving on this front. We expect the Razr 2026 series to run Android 16 out of the box. It shouldn't be too different from Motorola's Android 15 software, albeit with the addition of features like Modes and Notification Cooldown.

As for AI, the company has been doubling down on Moto AI, and we expect some improvements on this front as well. After teasing its Large Action Model a couple of years ago, the Razr could finally gain screen automation features like Gemini, allowing it to order food or book Ubers for you, and with very little input.

We're also expecting to hear more about Qira, which appears to be a major revamp of Moto AI across Lenovo devices. As Lenovo showcased earlier this year, it looks like Qira will act more like Gemini, allowing users to chat or enter a live chat where they can have an ongoing conversation and share their screen or camera. Qira will also work across Lenovo devices, so you can start an interaction on one device and finish it on another.

This has been pretty stubborn when it comes to its software updates, although lately it seems to have seen the light. The upcoming Motorola Razr Fold, for example, gets seven years of software updates, matching Samsung, Google and others. We're not sure if Motorola will extend this to the Razr 2026 series, but we hope it does.
