Singer and radio presenter Mollie King has revealed that she was rushed to hospital last month after collapsing and hitting her head while at home.
The Saturdays pop star usually hosts the weekday early afternoon show on BBC Radio 1, but has been missing from the airwaves for two weeks, prompting concern from fans.
On Monday (8 June), King, 39, shared a statement to Instagram detailing the terrifying accident and explaining why she’d been off air.
“After coming home late from work, I suddenly collapsed unconscious on the bathroom floor at 4am, hitting my head and face as I fell,” she wrote. “It was a huge shock for me and I ended up being rushed to A&E.”
Back on the radio later in the day, King said that she’d had a “grim few weeks”, as she thanked their listeners once again for checking in on her. “It’s so, so good to be back,” she told listeners.
On social media, King also heaped praise on her cricketer fiancé Stuart Broad, with whom she shares two daughters, for “bringing me round after I fell”.
“It’s been a real wake-up call that I need to make some time to get my strength back, not just for my own health, but so I can be the best version of myself for my family too,” she wrote.
King also shared a picture of herself out and about with her daughter on Sunday (7 June), which she explained was her “first day doing anything social”.
“After what has felt like a very long two weeks, it was amazing to get and spend time with my girls. We even had the surprise of spotting Daddy on a big screen, which made us all smile,” she wrote, with the picture showing Broad on an outdoor TV screen.
The post prompted an outpouring of support from King’s celebrity friends, including her bandmates from girl group The Saturdays.
“Sending you [love],” wrote Rochelle Humes, while Una Healy commented: “Love you, get well soon and rest up.”
“Sending love, Mollie, that sounds very scary for you all. Hope you’re doing OK, angel,” added Zoe Ball, while her Radio 1 co-star Edmondson commented: “We’ve missed you!”
King and Broad, who have been engaged for more than five years, share daughters Anabella, three, and Lilianna, one.
Last summer, King took a break from her radio show in order to have surgery for an undisclosed health issue. “I had to take some time off in July for an operation but everything went well and I’m doing much better now,” she shared at the time.
