According to Ravindra Ambulgekar, Chief Fire Officer of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire originated in cable trays and switch boxes located on the ground floor of the terminal. The incident was reported at around 6:10 PM and was quickly contained within the affected area.

Emergency teams, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, airport fire tenders, police personnel, and ward staff, were immediately deployed to the site. Initial efforts by airport fire units were followed by additional support from the Mumbai Fire Brigade to fully control the situation.

Officials confirmed that the fire was brought under control within minutes, preventing any major damage or escalation.

In an official statement, a CSMIA spokesperson attributed the incident to a short circuit and reassured that airport operations remained unaffected throughout. “A minor fire was reported at Terminal 1 due to a short circuit at 18:10 hrs. The fire was immediately brought under control by the emergency response teams within minutes. Airport operations remain unaffected,” the spokesperson said.

No injuries or disruptions to flight services have been reported.
