Megan Thee Stallion sets return date in Moulin Rouge on Broadway after hospitalization

Megan Thee Stallion will return to the stage after she was hospitalized during a performance of the Broadway musical Moulin Rouge.

The 31-year-old, whose real name is Megan Pete, issued a statement saying that she will resume her role as Harold Zidler — the owner of the titular Parisian nightclub — in the New York musical Thursday, two days after she became sick during Tuesday’s performance and was rushed to the hospital.

A spokesperson for the Grammy-winning rapper said doctors found she had extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels that caused her to feel sick. She was discharged and is now resting.

After an understudy stepped in for the rapper to continue the show Tuesday night, Megan will take off Wednesday’s matinee and evening performances to rest and recover.

Her spokesperson said, “Megan is incredibly grateful for the prayers and well-wishes from her supporters and is looking forward to resuming her role as Zidler on Moulin Rouge on Thursday.”

Megan shared in an Instagram post Wednesday that the health scare was a “real wake-up call for me.”

“I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough,” she wrote. “It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage, I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn’t.”

She continued, “Hotties I wanna be real with y’all because you mean everything to me and I hate letting yall down. I just need one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have been..I’ll be right back on that stage Thursday, stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100% the way you deserve. Thank you for always riding with me and loving me through everything.”

Tuesday’s show reportedly began normally, with the rapper appearing in the opening scenes. The show was stopped midway and theater officials asked audience members to stay seated inside. Megan was then replaced by her understudy for the rest of the show while she went to the hospital.

Her understudy, Patrick Clanton, will take on Zidler’s role for Wednesday’s performances.

The “Hot Girl Summer” singer made her Broadway debut in the jukebox musical last week at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Her limited run in the show is set to conclude May 17.

She is the first woman to play the role of Zidler on Broadway. The show has changed to allow the rapper to perform her hit songs “Savage” and “Body.”

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is set to close July 26 after a seven-year run.
