Manchester United face transfer headache as loan pair's future in flux with deadlines approaching

Marcus Rashford and Andre Onana are both expected to return to Manchester United this summer having failed to convince Barcelona or Trabzonspor to turn their respective loan moves permanent.

Rashford spent this past campaign with Barcelona and helped the Spaniards to a domestic double, but the Blaugrana do not seem keen to sign him on a permanent basis.

The forward’s loan contained a £26million buy option which Barcelona are hoping to negotiate down to just £13m.

That is according to a report in The Times, who add they must make their minds up before Rashford’s loan expires on June 15.

United are yet to receive formal confirmation as to Barcelona’s intentions, but after they spent £70m to sign another left wing in Anthony Gordon from Newcastle last week, it seems unlikley they would splash more cash on Rashford. They are also rumoured to be lining up a nine-figure bid for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

A second season-long loan for Rashford is also an option, but the player is reportedly ‘resigned’ to returning to Carrington this summer.

Elsewhere, United had been keen to sell off the shotstopper Onana, who spent last season in Turkey with Trabzonspor.

Similar to Rashford, reports in Turkey suggest Trabzonspor would be keen to renew Onana’s loan for a further season, but his £120,000-per-week wages have discouraged a permanent deal.

Trabzonspor may also face competition from rivals Besiktas.

Onana and Rashford are far from the only United players with their futures up in the air.

The Times add that Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee also find themselves on the chopping block, with backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir expected to move back to his native Turkey.
