A man was allegedly unlicensed and had drugs in his system when he sparked a police chase while riding a stolen and unregistered motorbike.
Strike Force Pumpa police saw an orange KTM Duke 200 motorbike travelling on Beresfield Drive just after 8.30am on Tuesday, May 26, which allegedly had no number plate.
Officers tried to stop the motorbike but allege the rider failed to pull over and a pursuit was launched along Anderson Drive at Beresfield.
Highway patrol police said the rider continued on in a manner intended to evade police, before entering the car park of Newcastle Memorial Park.
He allegedly abandoned the motorbike and tried to flee on foot before police arrested the 22-year-old Woodberry man.
Police checks then allegedly revealed the motorbike had been unregistered since April 2026 and was reported stolen in September 2025.
The man allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test for cannabis and methamphetamine.
He was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with police pursuit, driving a stolen vehicle, being unlicensed, using an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and refusing to give his name and address.
He was refused bail to face Maitland Local Court.
Police said further charges could be laid pending further analysis of the drug samples.
