These M&S homeware pieces rival Soho Home for a fraction of the price – here’s what to shop

M&S’s furniture, lighting and soft furnishings have gone viral - (M&S)

First, Marks & Spencer’s trend-led but affordable fashion came for our wardrobes. Now, the British retailer has set its sights on home interiors – and has not disappointed. The high-street stalwart’s latest homewear drop is awash with trend-led pieces that look far more premium than their price tags suggest, drawing inevitable comparisons with Soho Home. The aesthetic leans into modern, design-conscious styling – think sculptural armchairs, mid-century-inspired lighting, tactile fringed cushions and sleek veneer coffee tables.

Unsurprisingly, social media has wasted no time putting the collection through its paces. Viral demand has already seen standout pieces fly off the shelves, from a fabric ceiling light to a £299 block accent armchair – the latter drawing comparisons to Soho Home’s £995 Theodore design.

An offshoot of the global membership clubs, Soho Home was launched in 2016. The brand enables you to purchase furniture, textures and lighting inspired by the various Soho Houses around the world. Members get a discount but anyone can shop its luxury designs.

Synonymous with velvet furniture, moody lighting, vintage-inspired rugs and the use of natural materials such as wood, marble, leather and glass, Soho Home pieces are designed to give that ‘quiet luxury’ look. But its pieces come with hefty price tags. The label’s most famous designs – including the boucle garret chair, marble Oxley coffee table and Orson armchair – will set you back anywhere between £2,000 and £3,000.

Achieving a similarly expensive look for a lot less, M&S’s £299 burl coffee table is an alternative to Soho Home’s £2,695 Dawson table, while the retailer’s £79 ribbed glass lamp nods to the luxury homeware brand’s £395 Greyson design. If you’re looking to revamp your interiors this season, here’s everything we’re shopping from M&S’s new homeware collection.
