The second day of racing at La Vuelta España Femenina offers no flat terrain across 109.8 kilometres from Lobios to San Cibrao das Viñas, only constant climbs and ascents. The route moves north from Lobios, situated near the border of Portugal, with 2,143 metres of elevation gain.
There are lots of opportunities for attacks and a breakaway to thrive, though riders will most likely not take huge risks if the forecast of rain holds true and the descents become slippery again line stage 2. There are no mountain points on offer and only one intermediate sprint with 29.8km to go.
Once outside Ourense, the route turns back to the south for the final 5km, which is mainly a climb of 4km towards a roundabout signaling the relatively-flat final kilometre.
Expect to see EF Education-Oatly at the front of the peloton as they protect stage 1 winner and GC leader Noemi Rüegg. Rival teams including SD Worx-Protime, FDJ United-Suez and Visma-Lease a Bike will be eager to get their sprinters over the climbs to go for the stage 2 victory before major climbs begin to dominate the landscape.
