- House Speaker Mike Johnson has invited King Charles III to address a joint meeting of the US Congress during his visit to Washington DC on 28 April.
- "Our two nations share one of the most consequential partnerships in history, and together we will mark the historic milestone of America's 250th year of independence," the senior Republican politician said in a post on X.
- Charles and Queen Camilla’s long-expected historic trip will take place in late April despite calls for it to be postponed or even cancelled because of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
- The visit will span four days from 27-30 April and include a state dinner at the White House.
- This will be the King's inaugural visit to the US as monarch and the first state visit to the country by a British sovereign in nearly two decades.
