A surprising amount of The Princess of Wales’ covetable capsule wardrobe hails from the high street. Be it a pair of Boden loafers, a With Nothing Underneath cardigan, or a Reiss suit, anything Kate Middleton wears soon sells out. Case in point: a Karen Millen tailored dress that’s perfect for spring power dressing.
The royal stepped out in the yellow high street midi dress when she visited the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s maternity unit in 2022. A hardworking addition to any wardrobe, the belted, pleated style is as polished as it is wearable.
This is a tricky balance that Karen Millen always manages to nail – and something that its new ambassadors, writer and podcaster Elizabeth Day, journalist and presenter Louise Roe, and entrepreneur Sharmadean Reid, all embody. The high street label’s new collection, ‘We Saved You a Seat’, is characterised by vogueish military inspired tailoring, elegent dresses, à la Kate’s, and structured silhouettes. Designed to empower women of all ages, standout pieces include a green two-piece suit, a leather butter yellow midi skirt and a cotton crochet co-ord.
Some pieces appear plucked out of Kate’s own wardrobe – see the satin collarless jacket and matching wide leg trousers, or the pleated balloon maxi dress. But if you’re after her exact dress, the style is still available in classic black, understated ivory and a bold magenta hue. Better still, Karen Millen is donating £5 for every magenta dress sold to Breast Cancer Now.
Cut from crepe, the dress features a structured V-neck bodice, elegant mid-length sleeves and soft, floaty pleats through the skirt, creating a flattering silhouette that transitions seamlessly from day to evening. A belted waist adds subtle definition, enhancing its timeless, tailored appeal.

The Princess of Wales paired the dress with navy heels, and you can also get a similar pair from Karen Millen to wear with the dress.
